Leave map-only mode before closing the window
If Player View fills the display with the map and you want display options and initiative back, leave that mode with F11 or Escape. The public DMGrid 0.1.9 presentation describes that exit: you need not close Player View to return to its panels.
This advice concerns Map only fullscreen inside Player View. It does not assume every Windows fullscreen mode, another application or a different version behaves identically.
Prepare which display each person will see
DMGrid opens Player View in its own window, which you can move to the display used by your group. The game master retains controls on their own screen. This is a local in-person table workflow, without creating an online multiplayer room.
Before starting, check which of the two windows you are controlling. Entering or leaving map-only mode does not replace checking what players can see; nor is it an instruction to advance the round or change the current turn.
A view change during an encounter
Fictional example: while exploring a bridge, the group wants the second display devoted to the map. Later, a combat scene begins and you need to consult initiative order.
- Open Player View and place it on the group’s display.
- Use Map only fullscreen when you want that view devoted to the map.
- When you need the panel again, use F11 or Escape in that view and check that display options and initiative return.
- Consult the order you prepared. If it still needs entering or a tie needs resolving, leaving fullscreen does not settle that decision for you.
This is an illustrative workflow based on published controls, not an interactive test performed on your computer. If the expected view does not return, confirm the version and active window before closing other campaign windows.
Presentation changes do not change the rules
The Player View demonstration and explanation separates the players’ display from game-master controls. Version 0.1.9 also describes player drawing, manual fog and table tools. None makes a clear display an automatic combat adjudicator.
You can decide when to show only the scene and when to consult initiative. Keep that choice separate from moving tokens, revealing areas or advancing turns: those actions have different effects on the session.
Check the workflow before choosing
The DMGrid facts page presents a paid Windows beta with local campaigns and no account or subscription. Review the video and requirements before buying. If you already use it, try this view change in a test campaign before depending on it mid-scene; beta software can contain errors.
