Under the 2024 rules, a creature that can see you removes your Invisible condition’s attack benefit against it. Writing “invisible” is not enough to apply the same advantage to every roll. Before resolving an attack, identify attacker, target and whether that exception applies.
DMGrid organizes the board and notes; we do not claim it detects special senses or resolves this relationship automatically.
The exception concerns a specific creature
The official 2024 glossary gives your attacks Advantage and attacks against you Disadvantage through Invisible. It adds that you do not gain that benefit against a creature that can somehow see you.
Fictional example: Lira is invisible. The table has established that a guardian can see her through an applicable effect, while a bandit cannot. Lira does not receive Invisible’s attack benefit against the guardian. The benefit remains against the bandit, subject to other applicable rules.
Do not infer that the guardian sees the whole party or that a program option makes Lira unseen by the bandit. These are fictional and rules facts resolved by the table.
Prepare a useful turn note
A session note could say: “Lira: Invisible. Guardian can see her through the checked effect; bandit cannot. Review when the effect ends.” This is an authored note, not a new field or automation.
Before rolling:
- Confirm the rule or effect granting Invisible remains active.
- Check whether the other participant can see Lira here.
- Apply the attack benefit where appropriate and check other Advantage or Disadvantage sources.
- Update the note when circumstances change; do not retain an expired exception.
The example does not define a particular sense’s range or claim all effects end alike. Read the specific text your table uses.
Player View answers another question
DMGrid provides a separate player display and manual area and piece visibility. Showing or hiding a piece chooses which representation to share; it does not establish what every creature can perceive.
If the group needs a visible position to organize play, that presentation decision does not grant sight to a character. Resolve the effect before using the board image as evidence.
DMGrid is a paid Windows beta focused on in-person campaigns and local data. Review its current scope and your campaign rules. This guide uses 2024 without presenting the app as an automatic referee.
